Who Should Attend Senior Roundtable Events?PR professionals with 10+ years of experience or senior-level job title or function at current employer. Agency principals encouraged to attend.
OverviewIf a PR professional pulled a Rip Van Winkle and had been asleep for the past 10 years, waking up in 2011, she would be clueless as to what everyone was talking about. YouTube videos, TwitPics and Tweet-ups, 500 million Facebook friends and iPhone journalism breaking global news, would disorient even the most forward thinking practitioner from the 90s.
For many communicators, the skills needed today -- both to create campaigns and react to opportunity (or crisis) -- are learned on the fly. Thinking through strategy is usually a luxury and keeping up requires 360 degrees of continual observation, analysis and — lucky guesses. Linear process hasn’t just been replaced by divergence; it’s teleported to a place where rules don’t exist.
Amidst this chaos, you sit across from a client who asks, “What should I do?”
About Our Guest Speaker
Gary Goldhammer saw this coming long before he grew Edelman’s west coast digital practice from one (him) to 65 staff between 2007-10. While there, his team created integrated marketing campaigns for HP, eBay, Pepsi and Adobe, among many others. Prior to Edelman, he co-founded MarCom:Interactive, where he helped clients take advantage of new technologies including blogs, RSS, social networks, mobile and 3D virtual environments. Before that he was vice president and a key figure at Nelson Communications (now Porter Novelli), a public affairs agency that helped influence a good deal of of California policy and politics.
Gary now “commutes” from Orange County to his office in San Francisco where he is executive vice president at Velocidi, a digital creative agency that provides complete digital marketing services and campaigns—including Web presence, search, mobile, social, and email. His clients range from next-generation digital start-ups to major brands including, Microsoft, Dolby, Clorox, Netflix, JP Morgan Chase and and others, and he advises them daily on how to keep up with communication’s breakneck pace and develop strategies to navigate the new world of interactive global messaging.
At the March Senior Roundtable, Gary will give a brief overview of this evolution, as he has seen it, and demonstrate why today’s communicators need to approach strategy with a different mindset. He’ll also offer a checklist for public relations professionals to use when auditing their own — or their companies’/clients’ — digital initiatives and plans to leverage Web 2.0. Following his comments, the floor will open for questions and discussion.
Don’t miss this opportunity to hear and learn from Gary’s insights and experience — and immediately sharpen your own skills.
