11/05 Recap ยท Second Annual PR Seminar for Nonprofits
Starting where last year's PR Seminar for Nonprofits left off, the OC PRSA Community Service Committee, in conjunction with the Volunteer Center of Orange County, held the Chapter's Second Annual PR Seminar for Nonprofits at the OCTA building on Monday, Nov. 5th. Once again it was a sold-out event featuring Keri Gee Semmelman, who gave the truly inspirational keynote speech; a panel of top PRSA "PR Pros," including three board members, who drilled down to the essential information each nonprofit had come hoping to get. The afternoon was capped off by the face-to-face consultation session that pulled the afternoon's great information right into the PR challenges each nonprofit had prepped and posed in writing to the PR Pros even before attending the event. The download of great PR information ranged from the basics of communications models, to a list of the "ingredients" of a good PR plan, down to possible tactics to address each nonprofit's PR objectives.
The excitement in the room for the PR function, the profession and what was possible to be achieved for each nonprofit organization could be felt throughout the afternoon. The goal was to excite and fortify each nonprofit representative to be able to use PR to better achieve their organization's important mission -- to teach them how to fish, as the Chinese proverb goes. This event was definitely a big step in that direction. But perhaps the most immediate effect -- and one common to working on worthwhile causes -- the "givers," in this case the PR Pros and the Community Service Committee, may have gotten the very most out of the event by applying their PR expertise where it can help a large number of the neediest in our own communities. If you would like to share this feeling of satisfaction in the near future, join the Committee in 2008 and help carry on this proud and important tradition. You'll find details on joining in an "InBox" early next year.
