In the Mix: Orange County's Emerging Minority Majority

September 07, 2007

According to the United States Census Bureau's predictions, there will be no ethnic majority in the U.S. by the year 2050. As our nation continues to change, however, we also continue to be challenged by issues on race and diversity. The Orange County Register published an article reflecting data that Orange County will be "majority minority" in the near future. How will Orange County embrace this change?

The OC/PRSA Diversity Committee invites you to join them at their 2nd Annual Membership Mixer to discuss how Orange County's changing demographics affects the county's media, politics and businesses.

Special Guests Include:
Supervisor Janet Nguyen. The Hon. Janet Nguyen was elected to the Orange County Board of Supervisors in February 2007. In doing so, she became the first woman ever to represent the First District, the first Asian-American and the first Vietnamese-American to serve on the Board of Supervisors, and the youngest Supervisor ever to be elected in Orange County. In addition, she is only the fifth woman to serve on the Board of Supervisors, and this is the first time in Orange County's history that two women are serving on the Board at the same time.

Yvette Cabrera. As an Orange County Register journalist, Yvette Cabrera writes about people and issues in Orange County's diverse communities, and also serves as the newspaper's Latino coverage coordinator. She tackled health issues such as diabetes and alcoholism among Latinos, explored the obstacles facing Latino immigrants, and dealt with topics ranging from the cultural taboos tied to AIDS/HIV in the Latino community to the bicultural lifestyles of today's Latino youth.

Greg Hogan. Greg Hogan is the Chief Buzz Officer (yes that's correct) at SouthOCBuzz.com! SouthOCBuzz is a community focused website that provides information on community events, news, and entertainment. Prior to launching South OC Buzz, Greg developed award winning multi-cultural marketing programs and advertising campaigns for major companies such as Nike, Miller Beer, The L.A. Times, and McDonald's. He was recognized by Advertising Age Magazine as one of the nation's "Top 100 Best and Brightest Advertising Executives".
