PROMOTION DIRECTOR Under the direction of the KOCE Vice President of Advancement, create, develop and manage all communications, public relations, media relations, external promotion and advertising, brand management, media sponsorships, special events, and institutional marketing activities. Duties:
Maximize the success of KOCE public relations, advertising efforts, and community relations.Oversee and implement strategic marketing and promotion solutions.Work with station staffto help create imaginative promotional and advertising campaigns.
Create and implement a comprehensive, modern promotion plan that coordinates on-air and off-air elements.Carry through the master plan from concept to implementation to post-analysis.
Act as Brand Cop to ensure that station’s brand, logo, and image are consistently and correctly used.
Research, write and pitch press releases to newspapers, television, radio, and other media.Establish and maintain positive, on-going contacts with media representatives.
Coordinate marketing and communication activities with appropriate staff, which may include photography, advertising, print buying, special events, and trade shows.
Represent the station in community activities.Responsible for ensuring station visibility in the community, and establishing and maintaining relationships with other organizations in the community.
Research and write content for station website and other collateral.
Organize and establish media sponsorships and special events to heighten brand awareness and community involvement.
Represent KOCE in the community, with peers, Board members, and others to increase visibility and participation in appropriate arenas.
Effectively manage station promotion staff, volunteers and interns.Help coordinate web content with the Art Director and IT.
Manage relationships with outside advertising agency and PR firm.
Qualifications:
Five years experience in successful communications and branding functions at the corporate or major non-profit level.
Understanding and knowledge of broadcast audience, mission, and vision, especially of public television.Demonstrated success at other stations.
Thorough understanding of media at all levels, including an ability to interface with various news and other media professionals.
Strong written communication skills with an emphasis on creating powerful media releases and advisories.
Strong interpersonal communications skills with an ability to positively represent KOCE.
Demonstrated understanding of branding, positioning, and methods of exploiting and leveraging a corporate brand.
Experience in use of the internet and the web as tools in maximizing media, public relations, and brand building efforts.
Understanding of print and broadcast graphic elements, aesthetics, and design.
Ability to work collaboratively as a team member with other employees, managers and department heads.
Experience in department budget preparation and management.
Demonstrated ability to manage station’s “street team” of volunteers and interns.
Superior creative thinking, writing and copyediting skills.
Excellent initiative, follow-through, and ability to meet fast-paced deadlines.
Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations or related field.
Knowledge of Orange County strongly preferred.
