Public Relations and Communiations Internship

Description:

The City of Anaheim’s External Affairs Office has an opening for an intern to assist with writing, media relations and communication strategies for the City, while maintaining relationships with Anaheim’s well known organizations such as Anaheim Ducks, Angels Baseball, USA Volleyball and Disneyland Resort. The City looks to enhance its visibility among the Major League Baseball and Olympic sports industries. This is a great opportunity to build your portfolio with experience in journalism, promotions, relationship building, media pitching and event planning.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

• Currently be enrolled in upper division or graduate classes in an accredited college or university program.
• Be a self-starter, detail oriented and well organized.
• Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
• Possess an interest and desire to seek out interesting story lines/angles, conduct research and produce informative and creative articles.
• Be able to work independently, multitask and meet deadlines.
• Present oneself in a professional manner at all times.
• Be competent in Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Knowledge in Adobe systems, Microsoft Office Publisher, and video editing is desired.


Major Duties Include:

• Assist in researching and writing stories for Anaheim magazine; the City’s award-winning publication.
• Assist in media efforts for the USA Men’s and Women’s National Volleyball Teams.
• Assist with pre- and post- City event logistics, coordination, and help maintain vendor and sponsor relations.
• Assist in sponsor and advertiser pitching and relations.
• Update and maintain information on the City’s website pertaining to External Affairs projects.
• Maintain the City’s database of media clips and photography.
• This position will require some administrative duties.
