Julie Senter

Julie Senter is director of communications for the Building Industry Association of Southern California, responsible for developing the association’s public affairs strategies and communicating its messages. Since joining the association in 2002, Julie has reorganized and refocused the BIA's public affairs department and expanded its outreach. Under her leadership, BIA/SC has won numerous communications awards, developed its first comprehensive communications plan and launched a paid advertising campaign aimed at lifting consumer confidence and building the BIA's brand. Julie also runs the association’s grassroots mobilization program and works with its government affairs team to build coalitions and develop messages on key industry issues.

Julie previously worked as an investigative reporter and education writer for the Detroit Free Press, The Birmingham News and several Los Angeles Times community newspapers. Her expertise in media relations has helped the association and its members gain placements in local, regional and national media, including the Wall Street Journal, National Public Radio's All Things Considered and the Los Angeles Times, among many others. Julie is active with the Association/Nonprofit Section of the Public Relations Society of America.
