Advocacy

As a direct service to the Chapter’s membership, the OCPRSA Advocacy Committee aims to:

  • Advance our industry within key regional audiences
  • Identify and educate membership on emerging trends issues
  • Become a local voice for our industry

Throughout the year, events, tele-seminars, emails and other means will be used to achieve these objectives. We’ll also continually serve as the eyes and ears of the Chapter, seizing opportunities to promote our industry and sticking up for it when needed.

Said plainly, we are here to look out for the public relations industry in Orange County.

National Advocacy Spotlight

Issue: CBS News’ “Sunday Morning” aired an opinion segment by commentator Andrew Cohen roundly attacking the public relations profession.

Action: PRSA recorded a video to set the record straight. CBS later aired a defense of the public relations function by its vice president of communications.

Background

The OCPRSA committee was started in 2008 as part of National PRSA’s efforts to generate more awareness and understanding of our industry with key stakeholders. You can learn more about National’s advocacy effort here.
