The Orange County Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America affirms that diversity must become a smart business practice utilized in our association and within our organizations. Our goals include educating our members about the value of a diverse workforce as well as about the merits of including a multicultural practice in their business plans.
The work of the OCPRSA Diversity Committee strives to encompass all aspects of diversity. This includes recognizing that social inclusiveness embraces ethnic variety, as well as socioeconomic, gender, sexual orientation, and age differences in a group, society, or institution. By making diversity a priority, OCPRSA and the profession will mirror the diverse world we serve. This inclusiveness will enrich each of us both personally and professionally.
The year 2013 marked the 7th straight year the Diversity Committee earned the “Chapter Diversity Award of Honor” from PRSA National! Honored for its outstanding efforts in advancing PRSA’s National Diversity Initiative and commitment to diversity in public relations, OCPRSA was first recognized with the organization’s highest honor in diversity in 2005. It has received the award eight times. Founded in 2004, the OCPRSA Diversity Committee celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2014 and continues to strive for excellence in diversity and inclusion at the Chapter and beyond.
The Diversity Committee continues to expand upon its initial success through increased visibility, organizing networking events, outreaching to area public relations students, and providing ongoing workshops on the topic of diversity. Membership in OCPRSA’s Diversity Committee is open to members, non-members and students.
