PRSA 2016 Leadership Rally and Assembly
In October, current OCPRSA President Robin Wachner and President-Elect, Brenda Springer, APR, along with OCPRSA Western District Representative Dan Nasitka attended the PRSA 2016 Leadership Rally and Assembly in Indianapolis, Indiana as voting delegates. The Leadership Assembly, the annual stakeholder meeting of PRSA, is a vital part of governance for the Society. Leaders from all sectors of the Society — Chapters, Sections, Districts, the College of Fellows and others come together to examine the issues facing PRSA and the profession of public relations.
During the Assembly, delegates from the Orange County chapter had the opportunity to discuss and vote on amendments to the PRSA Bylaws, elect the 2017 board of directors and assembly delegates-at-large and discuss issues of importance to the profession. Some of the issues voted on included enabling remote voting at the Leadership Assembly as an option for special circumstances. This would provide more flexibility to hold a virtual annual meeting if it is not practical to hold one in person. Delegates voted in favor of this amendment.
Also voted on was an amendment which allows the National Board of Directors to make and present to the membership, based on specific and objective criteria, candidates for the offices of chair-elect, treasurer and secretary. These nominations will be sent to the members at least 60 days prior to the Annual Meeting of the Leadership Assembly. This allows the nominating committee to focus more on the Board of Director candidates and on recruitment. Delegates voted in favor of this amendment.
Finally, an amendment presented by the National Board of Directors would allow the PRSA Board to modify bylaw amendments with a two-thirds affirmative vote and would take effect immediately upon adoption of the board. Delegates voted against this amendment.
Being on the board of OCPRSA is a great way to get involved with the chapter and to let your voice be heard in the PR community. If you are interested in serving on the board or one of its committees, or just want to be more involved with OCPRSA, please email Ted Nguyen at email@example.com.
