Newport Beach & Company is the global marketing agency for the city of Newport Beach charged with inspiring travel to the destination. The organization is seeking a dynamic full-time communication manager to bring the Newport Beach story to life in traditional and new media outlets.

About You:
You will be responsible for keeping the destination story engine running for Newport Beach & Company and its sub-brands. This is a pivotal role on the team and will depend on your ability to create relationships with media and secure celebrated placements locally, nationally and internationally at a high volume. You have a strong work ethic and will be the right hand to the senior director of media relations.

You are a media relations machine, living and breathing PR and thrive on getting your next placement. You are a voracious news consumer, think like a journalist, aware of the latest news in the world and are always looking at discovering the next strategic and creative angle to pitch out to targeted media. You are the host with the most, known as the AP police in the office, thrive around people, an analytical and out-of-the-box thinker, reliable and entrepreneurial, tenacious with a laser-focus on KPI’s.

Duties and Responsibilities (included, but are not limited to the following):

  • Executes Newport Beach & Company’s robust public relations strategy under the supervision of the senior director of media relations
  • Responsible for the destination story engine program which includes pitching creative story ideas locally, nationally and internationally in a wide-variety of verticals/beats
  • Responsible for FAM program: designs and executes media visits from
    developing itineraries to hosting based on journalist’s needs
  • Assist with campaigns, programming and press events/conference execution
  • Assists with media missions
  • Crafts media materials including press releases, media alerts, fact sheets, what’s new, creative copy as needed, press kit materials, etc.
  • Create and foster communication channels with domestic and international industry partners to further amplify Newport Beach & Company messaging to strategic audiences
  • Responsible for PR tracker and clips while contributing to internal merchandising of communications team successes
  • Developing quarterly media and weekly internal e-newsletters
  • Responsible for executing Visit Newport Beach blog strategy and weekly
  • Contribute to social media strategy and mentor social media coordinator
  • Assists with international agency management
  • Manages newsroom
  • Consistently mining for unique opportunities in the media landscape and
    contributing your latest out-of-the-box idea
  • Special projects as assigned


  • 3+ years of agency or in-house experience within the hospitality/tourism sector is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, hospitality or related field
  • Proven media relations track record
  • Campaign experience
  • Established relationships with media; international media experience is a plus
  • Sharp writing skills with the ability to tailor copy to a variety of audiences from business to consumer
  • Flexible schedule a must, with some nights, weekends and travel required
  • Knowledge of the local area, hospitality industry, travel industry and marketing are a plus
  • Experience managing multiple accounts/sub-brands
  • Voracious news consumer with a finger on the pulse of what’s happening in the world and what’s trending
  • AP police, multi-tasker, self-starter, team-player, love a good pun and boast a gregarious personality!

Work Environment

  • Quiet office environment with low noise level
  • Office area is heated and air-conditioned
  • This position is an “in-office” position; telecommuting is not an option
  • The office staff is business casual, traditional business dress, if meeting with clients
