OCPRSA Member Spotlight: Annie Sullivan, Kristin Daher, Janelle Kruly, Cathi Douglas & Christie and Ted Nguyen

OCPRSA continues to be amazed at the accomplishments of its 300+ members. To honor our members’ achievements, we recently launched an “OCPRSA Member Spotlight” section in our weekly INBOX newsletter. The new feature highlights news about OCPRSA members’ career growth, updates about OC PR agencies, local company news, and more.

Annie SullivanMarch 11 Member Spotlight: Annie Sullivan of Westbound Communications

Congratulations to Annie Sullivan, current OCPRSA Social Media Chair and a member since 2017, for recently being promoted to senior account executive at Westbound Communications. As someone who has ‘leaned in’ to her PR career since graduating from Chapman University, Sullivan has advanced at Westbound Communications from intern to senior account executive in just four years. She also plays a key role in the agency’s food practice team.

At Westbound Communications, Sullivan leads media relations and digital strategy programs for clients including the National Honey Board, Visit Laguna Beach, Mission Hospital and the Port of Long Beach. Her Golden Retriever, Ginger, accompanies her to the office every day.

Kristin DaherMarch 18 Member Spotlight: Kristin Daher of Powerhouse Communications

Kristin Daher, president and chief storyteller of Powerhouse Communications and an OCPRSA member since 2012, was recently elected onto the board of directors for the California Restaurant Association Foundation (CRAF), a non-profit that invests in and empowers California’s restaurant workforce.

Daher will utilize the resources of her agency to bring awareness to the important programs offered by CRAF including Restaurants Care, providing emergency assistance to restaurant workers who have experienced sudden tragedies and hardships, and ProStart which provides introductory culinary arts training and hospitality career-exploration programs for high school students to give them the best possible start in the professional culinary world.

Janelle KrulyMarch 25 Member Spotlight: Janelle Kruly, APR, of Orange County School of the Arts

A huge congratulations to Janelle Kruly, APR, director of public relations and communications for Orange County School of the Arts and OCPRSA member since 2013, for recently earning her APR* (Accredited in Public Relations).

Kruly has a passion for telling the stories of people and organizations who are doing inspiring work. At the Orange County School of the Arts, she leads strategic communications campaigns that encourage ongoing support from both internal and external constituents. Kruly has nearly a decade of experience, having begun her career with Pacific Symphony, where she designed media relations and social media programs to increase awareness of the organization’s public value and support concert promotions. Kruly graduated summa cum laude from Chapman University with her bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in marketing and a minor in public relations. She lives in Surf City, where she enjoys yoga, hiking and a summers at the beach.

April 15 Member Spotlight: Christie Nguyen of Studio 18 Nail Bar

Ted Nguyen, OCPRSA immediate past president and member since 2004, has designated his “Member Spotlight” to Christie Nguyen of Studio 18 Nail Bar in Tustin. The coronavirus pandemic has forced all of us toward unprecedented action, and this week’s spotlight highlights everyday people doing extraordinary things to help protect those working on the frontlines of the COVID-19 crisis.

Christie is leading the charge in gathering and donating masks and gloves to frontline healthcare workers who are running out of protective gear. In just one week, “Operation: Nailing It for Health Care Workers” has netted more than 120,000 medical-grade masks and 300,000 gloves from hundreds of nail salons and their suppliers. Those items have delivered to more than 25 hospitals and medical clinics in O.C. and L.A. County. And the work continues!

Cathi DouglasApril 22 Member Spotlight: Cathi Douglas, APR, of Cathi Douglas Communications, Inc.

This spring, Cathi Douglas, APR, incorporated her business, Cathi Douglas Communications, Inc. as an S-corporation as the result of her clients’ concerns about the controversial state law, AB 5, which restricts freelance business. Douglas is a respected leader in the fields of journalism and public relations and has been an OCPRSA member since 1991.

She recently completed work on a brochure for the Coast Community College District on Orange Coast College’s upcoming residence hall, and consults with clients primarily in higher education, health care, and nonprofit arenas. She writes feature stories for several publications, and produces a nationally recognized column for Orange County Catholic, the largest-circulation weekly U.S. Catholic newspaper.

Douglas is accredited by the Public Relations Society of America, received its highest honor – the Distinguished Service Award – and is a past president of Orange County PRSA.
